Dr. West brings over fifteen years of teaching experience to his faculty role at DMU, along with extensive leadership experience as a former pastor, K-12 principal, and university dean. He has been a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado since 2006 and has counseled men, women, adolescents, children, and families with grief, depression, anxiety, divorce, and spousal abuse for over ten years. Dr. West is trained in EMDR and has spent several years counseling soldiers and female trauma survivors. He also specializes in counseling those who have experienced a Borderline parent or spouse.
Dr. West holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Theology from Baptist Bible College, a Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of Phoenix, and a PhD in Educational Leadership, Research, and Policy from the University of Colorado. John’s previous experience and passion with ministry, counseling, and education have shaped his research and writing interests. He is the lead author of the book Emotional Intelligence for Religious Leaders published by Rowman and Littlefield in August 2018.
