Leading in Christ

Elected in 2007 as the President of the Institute for the Psychological Sciences, now Divine Mercy University, Fr. Charles Sikorsky, L.C., has devoted himself to growing the University’s place in academia, the Church, our nation and the world.

A canon and civil lawyer trained in philosophy and theology from Baltimore, MD, Fr. Charles earned his law degree from The University of Maryland School of Law after obtaining a B.A. in political economy from The Johns Hopkins University. Upon entering the seminary, he earned degrees in philosophy and theology from the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical University and a Licentiate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was a proud member of the 1982 national champion basketball at his high school, Calvert Hall of Towson, MD. Fr. Charles was ordained to the priesthood in Rome on December 24, 2002 by the now Cardinal Leonardo Sandri.

As president, Fr. Charles has been committed to expanding the reach of the university, with an emphasis on forming, educating and training mental health professionals and those working in the helping professions. While pursuing academic and professional distinction, he has brought a renewed emphasis to DMU’s distinctive mission, rooted in the tradition of the Catholic Church, to educate the whole person.

As a result of these efforts, the university’s on-campus work has been consolidated and online education has been introduced and expanded to include a new School of Counseling and multiple offerings for certification programs.

Among the school’s accomplishments during Fr. Charles’ tenure are:

New programs in counseling, psychology, and spiritual direction have been successfully designed, developed, and implemented. The university purchased and developed its permanent campus, giving it a long-term home!

Enrollment growth of over 1000%. An Alumni Association was formed, helping our graduates to continue their vital impact in over 40 states and 20 countries. Scholarly and research projects have been developed, including the publishing of our foundational work on the nature of the human person and strategic partnerships with over 15 other institutions. The university purchased and developed its permanent campus, giving it a long-term home! Over $40M has been raised to finance scholarships, new programs, the new campus, and operations. Regional accreditation has been successfully maintained and professional accreditation was earned from the American Psychological Association.

Fr. Charles resides in Ashburn, VA with his community of the Legionaries of Christ. He is an avid sports fan and supports his hometown teams, the Ravens and the Orioles.
