PsyD Program Training Clinic: Catholic University of America Counseling Center
Doctoral students in the PsyD program at Divine Mercy University begin their initial clinical training experience at the Catholic University of America Counseling Center.
The Counseling Center is a comprehensive, campus-based mental health service that supports the psychological well-being of undergraduate and graduate students. Services include individual counseling, group therapy, crisis support, and referrals to community providers when longer-term or specialized care is needed.
Within this setting, students are introduced to the foundations of clinical practice in a structured and supportive environment. Under the supervision of licensed mental health professionals, trainees develop core competencies in intake assessment, case conceptualization, treatment planning, and the delivery of evidence-based interventions.
The Counseling Center operates within a short-term, outpatient model of care, providing students with experience that reflects contemporary practices in university counseling settings. Trainees work with a diverse student population presenting with a range of developmental, relational, academic, and mental health concerns.
In addition to direct service, students participate in supervision and consultation, supporting the development of clinical skills, professional identity, and ethical practice. This early training experience prepares students for subsequent practicum placements and continued clinical development throughout the program.
