Dr. Joann V. Altiero is the current President of the Maryland Psychological Association (M.P.A). She is serving a 3-year term in public office for the Board of Examiners of Psychologists in Maryland as president-elect; she has also been past president and received an appreciation award. In 2014, she was designated by APA as a state leader in Maryland; and attended the State Leadership Conference as part of the Maryland delegation, meeting with Maryland representatives on Capitol Hill.

Dr. Altiero is a child clinical psychologist who has worked in the field of clinical psychology for over 20 years and has had a successful private practice promoting family mental health in Port Tobacco and La Plata, MD, since 1998.  She has also served as a diplomat and individual member of Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (A.S.P.P.B.). Currently as MPA president she serves on the Executive committee, the Board of directors and the Legislative committee of MPA. She was awarded a full merit fellowship from an APA accredited program, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and completed an APA accredited internship at NOVA Southeastern University in Florida. Dr. Altiero has published a work book for ages 6 to 12 which is sold internationally.  Her professional interests include resiliency, cognitive behavioral therapy, the development of effective coping skills and the integration of values and principles in ethical behavior.
