The University must file a 1098-T with the IRS for enrolled students who have a reportable transaction. The University reports Box 1, student payments received less any reimbursements or refunds made during the calendar year that relate to the payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses during the same calendar year. The amount reported is not reduced by scholarships and grants reported in box 5.
The University does not fill 1098-t for Courses for which no academic credit is offered, even if the student is otherwise enrolled in a degree program, according to the IRS requirements.
A 1098-T form is electronically delivered to students with a US citizenship status of native, naturalized, or permanent resident on university records through their Populi (student portal). As required by law, 1098-T statements are available by January 31st of the following year.
Students without one of these three US citizenship statuses or students with a non-resident alien status will not have a 1098-T automatically generated. To request a 1098-T be generated, please contact the Financial Aid Office. We will generate the current year’s 1098-T upon receipt of both your request AND a completed W-9S form (PDF). The deadline to request the current tax year’s 1098-T form is March 31st.
